BA's Corner: That's My Girl

How many books do you read a month?

This was one of the first questions my Senior English teacher asked us in high school. My answer? Zero.

There were a few of us with this answer, and we quickly called ourselves "The Zero Book of the Month Club." When given a choice of assignment, we always chose to watch or make videos rather than read books and write papers. True to our mantra, we told everyone that our club met once a month, outside the library.

Rest assured, when I met AA, this was not the first thing I mentioned about myself. I'm pretty sure I had the ring on the finger before I let that cat out of the bag.

We recently discovered that Leah's daycare has a Facebook page and has been posting pictures of her class from time to time. Most of the pictures are of children lounging around, playing with toys, looking cute and cuddly. But when the camera came to Leah on this day, she decided to let everyone know that, indeed, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Falling asleep in the crib ... nada.
Falling asleep in the pack-n-play ... nada.
Falling asleep on the king-size tempurpedic bed ... nada.
Falling asleep in the middle of the day, sitting upright at a table in the middle of a sunlit room filled with crying babies ... no problem.

  2. Obviously, she needed a more stimulating book! BTW BA, do you not remember all of those books you had to read in the 5th grade? That burned you out for sure! To clarify, though, I do believe you learned to read once you found the right books.

  3. BA, to test your theory of sleep preference being passed on by the genes, when you next want Leah to fall asleep, put a book in her crib. I would suggest War and Peace, it would take her a month to finish that book. Granda

  4. Ha ha ha!! Nice. Leah, if you continue in your "Zero Book of the Month Club" membership when you are older, I will certainly try to accept it, but as the self-proclaimed bookworm of the family, I won't go down without a fight. I'm certainly counting on Harry Potter to show you how wonderful and enthralling books can really be (when your parents say that you are old enough, of course). But if it will help your parents put you to sleep at night, then by all means, please find books to be as boring as you like.

  5. As the one carrying insomniac genes, I have to say I'm glad to see her sleeping. Although I swiftly informed Leah that she'd never make it through law school with this kind of work ethic.

Thank you for your comments. I love reading them. For those of you who know us personally, please use "AA" and "BA" in place of our names. Thank you!
